An agentic workflow is a multi-step automation where AI agents do the repetitive work and people approve the decisions that matter. The difference from a simple chatbot is that the AI takes actions across several steps, so the boundaries need to be clear and every step needs an audit trail.
Example: SmartComm in CourtCall
SmartComm, a module in design for our CourtCall tournament software, has a clear AI boundary. The AI may acknowledge player and guardian messages, parse late arrivals, and rank pull-up candidates. A tournament director must still confirm court assignments, defaults, and withdrawals, and every message is kept for an audit trail.
We design business automations the same way: decide up front what the AI may do on its own, what it must hand to a person, and what gets logged.
